Thank you all for giving me a peek into your lives and the songs that make a difference for you. I’ve added links to the lyrics for each of the songs. Many of the ones you mentioned were new to me, and I enjoyed reading the words (and also listening to some samples of the music on Amazon).

Kansas Bob, I’ve been thinking about writing a post on “It is Well with my Soul”–about the one part of that song that is hard for me and the part that makes me okay with still singing the hard part. Thank you for sharing what that song meant to you, when and why.

Different songs speak to me at different points in my life. Like the first poster said, "My Deliverer" is a favorite. I also like "One Touch." My favorite right now is "Holy Only Begotten God" by Caedmon's call. And a new one "Opposite Way" by a new group Leeland.

Mde me think of a time last year when my wife was in the hospital for a month and we sang that old hymn “It is Well with my Soul” … it did something to me as I sang those words … it was transforming … I felt that it was a bit of spiritual warfare.

The song "My Deliverer is Coming" is one example of dozens that do that for me. It's one of those songs that I don't care at all that the chorus is repeated repeatedly. Steve Taylor's song that starts, "Life's too short for small talk..." Petra's "Shaking the House." Keith Green's "Grace by Which I Stand." I could do this for hours. It's a great poem, and a great point. There was a hymn we sang at last week's prayer meeting that I will have sung again today for that very reason. And a month before that it was, "Be Still my Soul." So lovely, a good song.
